Music Memories

How many times has a song come on the car radio and you've had to shut off everything else, pull over, and zone into the music? Most of the time it's because of the memories that song brings to mind. Music has an amazing connection to people in ways many don't realize. Whether it's a song playing at your high school dance or a song you heard while reconnecting with a friend, it's music that jogs your memory and keeps you calm in times of insanity.

Mood rings were the "in-style/ must-have" accessory when you were 5, but music was always there to change your mood. Blues and hip-hop can't be further apart in genre, but when it comes to your mood- they both cause changes. Soul music reminds you of sweet summer loving and treats your mind like calm ocean waves. Rap reminds you of crazy high school/college dances where you had not a fear in the world. If you work in the post office or at a Hospital ER, when a song comes on the radio that brings back memories, you find your self at peace with the world.

Written in 1697 by William Congreve, "music has charms to soothe the savage breast." This saying, usually misinterpreted to "music hath charms to soothe the savage beast," refers to your soul and how music hast the power (charm) to soothe your soul into a relaxed state, so why is the world not at peace? Why are we not at peace with the world? The world will never know....

The Mourning Bride, 1697, by William Congreve:

Music has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,
To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak.
I've read, that things inanimate have mov'd,
And, as with living Souls, have been inform'd,
By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound.
What then am I? Am I more senseless grown
Than Trees, or Flint? O force of constant Woe!
'Tis not in Harmony to calm my Griefs.
Anselmo sleeps, and is at Peace; last Night
The silent Tomb receiv'd the good Old King;
He and his Sorrows now are safely lodg'd
Within its cold, but hospitable Bosom.
Why am not I at Peace?

Defy gravity, make a memory, and live life with music...
